Our cooking begins with the flavors of Cuba: slow-cooked meats, fragrant rice, black beans and sweet plantains. From Ropa Vieja and Lechón to Empanadas de Pollo, the dishes at Victor’s honor the traditions we grew up with while making room for new ideas.
Pair your meal with a Cuban rum cocktail and settle in. This is food made to be enjoyed around a table, in good company.
A Family Story
Victor’s Café began in 1963, when Victor del Corral and his wife, Eloina Ruiz de Ugarrio, opened a restaurant on Columbus Avenue at 71st Street. They brought a part of Cuba to New York: its cooking, its warmth and the belief that a meal is an occasion to bring people together.
Their daughter Sonia Zaldivar joined the restaurant in 1972. In 1980, the family moved Victor’s to West 52nd Street, where it found a new home in the Theater District. Sonia helped shape the restaurant’s evolving approach to Cuban cuisine while preserving the dishes and traditions at its heart.
Today, Sonia and her daughter Monica Zaldivar carry that story forward. Still family-owned, Victor’s remains a personal expression of our Cuban roots and our life in New York—one we are proud to share with every guest.
